Lindsay Place, Glasgow

With this scheme the client wanted to extend the existing kitchen and dining area but also convert the attic into living accommodation. The client also stating a desire for something more contemporary.

The approach was to separate the kitchen area from the existing house, creating an axis/ view through from entrance to the back garden, while in doing so, the kitchen receives a floor to ceiling window toward the front of the house. The new extension to the rear consists of an informal sitting area and dining area looking into the garden through a floor to ceiling, butt jointed glazing system. Externally the glass is framed within cedar cladding with cedar brise soleil covering the sitting area. From the street the standing seam zinc cladding wraps up and over the extension to form the new roof.

Further accomodation (bedroom & shower/ wc) was provided in the attic space through the creation of a large dormer to the rear which is clad in vertically hung roofing slates to match the existing roof. The glazing wraps around the dormer toward the views at this level.

Both the extension and attic conversion are insulated using 100% recycled newspaper.
