Mearns Road, Glasgow


From the outset our client had expressed a desire to open up the rear of the existing bungalow through the use of large areas of glazing to connect with views over the golf course directly behind. The house would have a formal frontage however open up to a fluid, informal living space. As in previous projects tempting views from the entrance through the house to beyond were created to intrigue visitors. The open plan area would consist of a large kitchen with island, a large living area and lower level dining area before spilling out onto an external decking area and garden. An additional utility room and large garage to the front were also included within the accommodation at ground floor.

The roof of the lower extension is formed by a series of varying zinc planes creating an almost sculptural element in itself while cantilevering over the expansive glazed sections.

The accommodation at first floor was also increased significantly including the addition of a master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room. The existing shower room was converted to a bathroom with separate shower facilities as well as the recreation of the existing bedroom to the rear.
