The client in this project was keen to free up space in the existing kitchen/ living areas toward the rear of the house while demolishing the existing garage potentially creating an extra bedroom.

After weighing up the structural issues involved, our approach was to remove the existing central bathroom completely while extending a small area at the back door. This created an area of approx 8.5m x 5.5m, large enough to house the kitchen/ dining and living areas. Large areas of glass were used to create views from the entrance to the back garden and also bring vast quantities of natural light into the space.

As part of this scheme, the new extension would not only house the sought after bedroom, but bathroom, utility and storage areas also. External access would also be provided from the driveway through to the back garden with the bedroom also overlooking what would become a back courtyard area.
